Coaching & Teaching Staff

As a club, we have worked hard over the last 3 years to develop a team of qualified and enthusiastic teachers and coaches which has been a large factor in our recent successes.

We have 3 part time paid coaches but the majority are volunteers who have been prepared to commit time and effort to help. Most of the volunteers have come from within the Club ranks and are parents of existing swimmers. A number are young people who are still swimming and also give up their time for the Club. Our aim is to provide the opportunities for all Squad and swim development coaches to achieve ASA/UKCC Level 2 qualifications. This is the level at which they can operate unsupervised.

The Club provides financial assistance for training courses to those wishing to help and we are always looking for new volunteers as the more we have the easier the load on the rest. In general the more “pairs of eyes” we have on the swimmers the better the swimmer feedback and discipline. If anyone is interested in being a coach or teacher (you don’t have to swim or be an ex-swimmer!) then please contact Keith to discuss.

There is obviously a cost aspect to paying for coaches and their training. This has to be spread across all swimmers in the Club through the training fees and membership. This is the second largest outgoing after the cost of the hiring the pools.
