Southwold Swimming Club

We travelled again to Hutton Moor for the second round of this year's series of galas. We needed to build on our solid Round 1 result and aim to get into the "A" Final. 

We had to swim against Truro City again who won our first round gala with a 28 point margin. With the return to the team of George Youlden and Jason Newman we thought we could do better than round 1. But would it be good enough to close up on Truro? Most of the other teams we thought we would be stronger than, but we had the unknown of Cardiff City "B" to consider.

Again we got off to a good start in the IMs and relay section and ended up 2 points ahead of Truro with 50 points out of a maximum of 60. We held strong and by event 20 we had stretched out a 9 point lead over Truro with Cardiff a further 12 points behind.  In that section there were wins for Jessica Shaw (10), Maddie Hopkinson-Buss (13) and Peter Rogers (12). A really fine section up to event 42 and the final relays saw us pull further away to take commanding 22 point lead over Truro. Individual wins went to Jason Newman (13), Eleanor Aris (11), Bethan Tomlinson (14) and  Jack Instrall (11) but there were many second place finishes.  We just had to hold tight and swim strong which we did  taking 37 points from the final 48 on offer to finish on 228 a full 19 points ahead.

This strong showing means that we will have made the "A" Final which on the 12th December at Millfield, start 3.15pm, probably in the Top 6 place which is a fantastic acheivement for our first year in this division. It will be a tough final and we have yet to race against many top sides in this division such as Plymouth Leander "B",  Yeovil, Street and Torfean. We will need a full turn out for this gala to do ourselves justice and finish thies year's League off well
