A much shorter trip this time, just down the road to the Link Centre at Swindon. We knew this would be a tough gala and it proved to be so! The strong teams were going to be Weston Super Mare, Swindon Dolphins and Yeovil A. Weston Super Mare and Swindon both won their first round galas with Yeovil finishing very close to Weston Super Mare.
The gala went as expected with the the 3 teams mentioned stretching out leads from the first round of relays. We were however a solid 4th place ahead of Trowbridge and West Dorset Warriors. As could be expected wins were hard to come by but well done to the Boys 9 year Team in the 4x25m Freestyle Relay, Emily Locke (10) in the 50m Breast, and Lucy Jenkinson (11) in the 50m Back.
The real battle was between the top 3 teams with just a few points between them and only the top 2 making the "Winners" Final. We were not far behind in most races but unfortunately just enough to be pipped into 4th place most of the time. Our swimmers continued to fight for every race and we swam well to hold the 4th place comfortably ahead of Trowbridge.
The final result was:
Swindon Dolphin - 217 Points
Weston Super Mare - 215 Points
Yeovil "A"- 213 Points
Southwold - 158 Points
Trowbridge - 112 Points
West Dorset Warriors - 106 Points
The top 2 teams from this round in each of the top 3 galas make the "Winners" Final. The rest are ranked according to their Round 2 points, 158 in our case, and allocated to the final round galas. So we just have to wait to see which gala we end up in.
Many thank to the poolside staff and the chaperones
Keith
