SWINDON TIGERSHARKS - SEPARATED MEDLEY 29TH July Swimmers Jacob Graham, Jessica Graham, Charlotte Moore, Rebecca Robinson, Alex Smith, Bethan Tomlinson, James Tomlinson
Coach Report A small band of swimmers ventured west for the Tigersharks Open meet which is a good, friendly well run gala. All swimmers raced well some achieving personal bests again on their swims a week earlier at Plymouth. Although the gala was a licensed Level 3 event the cut off times were set at the National Standard. A number of good swimmers from around had travelled to compete and the competition level was high. Jacob Graham had a notable performance winning all Golds available in the 11 year boy age group. All swimmers raced over 50m in all the strokes and were ranked according to their total time from each 50m sprint. The six swimmers with the fastest total time qualified for a Medley final. Of our 8 swimmers, the appearance of Jessica Graham, James Tomlinson and Bethan Tomlinson in the overall finals was also a highlight. It was interesting to see that in general, the finishing position in the finals over the longer medley distance mirrored the total time from the 50m sprints.

Social The Swindon venue was packed and the summer sun led to warm temperature in the pool area. Parents attending next year are advised to arrive early and have a cushion for the chairs. Lunch can be purchased at the nearby Asda, although the sports centre also has a good cafe. The good quality glass block trophies presented to all the finalist swimmers were well received. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Plymouth Open Level 3 Non-National Qualifiers Open Meet - 21st/22nd July 2007 Swimmers Katie Bennett, Alice Constable, Jacob Graham, Jessica Graham, Charlotte Moore, Peter Rogers, Nikki Smith
Coach Report A small band of swimmers ventured south for the Plymouth Open meet. All swimmers raced well with most achieving personal bests. Although the gala was a licenced Level 3 the cut off times were set ASA grade AAA which equates to roughly National standard. This meant the overall standard was high especially in the younger ages. We won a range of medals with the lions share going to Peter Rogers in the 10 year boy age group. Overall we ended up about 12th ranked club which was a good achievement given the number of swimmers.

Entries need to be completed ASAP. please, as the event is becoming more and more popular each year and there will be a maximum number of swimmers that can be entered. NB: The Championships will be used to select a team to represent the County on Saturday 27th August at the Open Water National Age Group Championships. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cartwright Trophy Gala - Keynsham - 30th June This was an excellent gala with some great performances. Thornbury and Keynsham were just too strong but we held our own admirably against the Bristol North team. Our younger swimmers continue to improve with each gala. Individual times now on Hy-Tek.
Final Results: Thornbury - 199 Keynsham - 192 Southwold - 142 Bristol North - 126 Dursley - 63 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gloucester City Level 3 Open Meet - Sat 23rd/Sun 24th June 2007 This Meet was an excellent opportunity for our less experienced swimmers to gain quality competitive experience. In a number of excellent swims, we won a number of gold and other medals and a couple of first places that unfortunately resulted in “Speeding Tickets”. However these times still stand as ASA qualified personal best times. The full set of results can be downloaded HERE ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bristol North Diddy Gala - Saturday 24th March 2007 This was an enjoyable gala with very good performances from our young swimmers. For some this was their first real gala and apart from a few early nerves all went well. We were up against strong Henleaze and Soundwell sides and held our own in many races. Henleaze were very strong in the relays and constantly stayed ahead of Soundwell and us. Between Soundwell and us it was "neck and neck" and with 2 races to go it was all square on points. Unfortunately Soundwell managed to claim a 1st and 2nd place in the last 2 races to just knock us into 3rd place. The final points were:
Bristol Henleaze - 267 Soundwell - 255 Southwold - 252 Bristol North - 199 Thornbury - 141 Dursley - 136 Beaufort - 97
Detailed results can be found HERE The team was picked based on the Southern Junior League (SJL) ages so all the swimmers selected are eligible in those age bands for the SJL competition. All swimmers need to keep themselves available if possible for the Southern Junior League Galas on Saturday 21st April, 19th May and the 23rd June. Team sheets will be posted on the notice board nearer the time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gloucester Blocks - 17th/18th March 2007 Another good weekend at GL1 produced 90% plus PBs. Bethan Tomlinson continued her run in the 11 year girls with 2 more Gold medals, a Silver and a Bronze. An excellent swim from Steven van der Park saw him pick up a Silver in the 15 years 100 Backstroke. Top 8 placings in the younger groups went to George Youlden (12), Jacob Graham (11), Jon Hatton (12), Alice Constable (10) and Maddie Hopkinson Buss (10). The older swimmers swam well with many knocking a number of seconds off the 100m times they swam in November. Ashley Case picked up his first South West Region time in the 100 Back with a 4.5 second PB.
Based on their performances Bethan Tomlinson, Jacob Graham and Nikki Smith have been selected to swim for Gloucester County at the Wiltshire Centenary Gala on the 21st April. Congratulations and Good Luck to all of them!
