County Champs - Final Teams for Relay events - Sunday 14th March

Posted March 9, 2010

Please see the link which provides the submitted team's for this Sunday's County Champs relay teams.

Although we have entered a number of teams in the heats for some age groups, only 1 team can represent the Club in any finals. The representative team for the finals will be selected on the day, by the coaching staff, and can be drawn from any swimmers in any of the appropriate age group teams.

We have had to withdraw 4 teams in total. Boys 9/10 age group (1 team), Boys 11/12 age group (2 teams), and a team for the Girls 15/16 age group. This is due to insufficient swimmers being available to run these teams because of last minute cancellations by some swimmers.

Southern Junior League 2010 - 24th April 2010

Posted March 6, 2010

The first round of the Southern Junior League is on the 24th April. We are at the Littledown Centre in Bournmouth and the Gala starts at 6.00pm. We will be laying on coach transport and all swimmers are expected to travel by coach.

We are up against Ferndown, Keynsham, Frome, Melksham, Trowbridge and Poole.

We did extremely well last year finishing 5th overall. he first round this yearill be a tough gala with us up against last year's winners Ferndown, who will be strengthened by swimming jointly with Bournmouth Dolphins who were last year's 3rd placed team! Keynsham are usually very strong and usually make the Winners Final, although they just missed out on last year's Winners Final. And we must not forget the others including Trowbridge and Poole who again can field strong teams.

I will post the team after the Gloucester County Championship Team evensts on the 14th March. We need a maximum turnout on the daand we need to do some hard work between now and then to do well.

County Championsips Weekend 2

Posted March 1, 2010

All the hard work is paying off as this weekend saw our swimmers get more PBs and medals.  We are just about at last year's totals with another day to go. The pleasing thing is the number of different  swimmers this year to get a top 3 medal and the number of top 8 places in the younger ages has increased. The highlight of the weekend was probably Bethan Tomlinson becoming the County Champion in the 400m Freestyle. Unfortunately she was a mere 0.09 seconds outside the time required for National Qualification.

B Grade Team Gala - 13 Feb 2010

Posted February 14, 2010

Well done to all the swimmers who took part in the B Grade Gala at Hutton Moor on the 13th Feb 2010.  We had a good turnout of swimmers but were a little short in the 15U and Open Girls categories. This was the first team gala for most of the swimmers this year as the Club has now pulled out of the Cotswold Series. The swimmers rose to the challenge well and special mention to Charlotte Bragg and Sophie Watson who had to swim a lot of races due to the lack of numbers in the older girl categories.

This was the first multi-club gala Southwold have organised and hosted and all seemed to run smoothly. So thanks to Richard and Jason who did a lot of the running around and to all those who helped on the day.

The gala saw some close racing and the lead changed several times with 3 teams going intothe last race with only a few points between them. However, Weston-Super-Mare declared some ineligable swimmers after the final race and their points were retrospectively adjusted.

The final points were:

Southwold - 168

Yeovil - 162

Frome - 149

Weston-Super-Mare - 126

Wells & Shepton Mallet - 108

All the Southwold results and splits are now on Team Stats Online

Newport Spring Open Meet - May 2010

Posted February 14, 2010

Please find attached details of the Newport Spring Open Meet to be held at Newport 25m pool on the weekend of 1/2nd May 2010. This is one of the Club’s chosen Open Meets and therefore all eligible swimmers are expected to enter the meet. This is a popular meet, well attended with a good standard of swimmers participating.

Although the information states that this is a Level 1 meet, this is under Swim Wales licensing conditions. There are qualifying times (QT) where entry is guaranteed if you meet these QT's, and consideration times (CT). Entry times between QT and CT will be included provided the meet is not oversubscribed.  If this is the case, faster times will be given priority.

If you are using Long course entry times, please convert them to Short course times.  You will notice from the entry forms that there are two sets of events at the same meet:

1)      At the level 1 meet there are 100 and 200m (plus 400m FC)  events for all strokes plus a 50m FC event for older swimmers;

2)      For any 9 and 10 year olds not meeting the cut off times for the Level 1 meet, there are also Level 4 events (50m for all strokes and a 100m IM) at this meet.

You will see from the Southwold entry forms attached that the Committee of Club has decided to drop the 50p additional charge levied previously on each event to cover the cost of coaches passes etc. This will be in place for all Open Meets entered by the club between now and the end of this season (July 2010). This decision was taken by the Committee because of the training sessions cancelled over the recent months due to the bad weather and the savings that the club has made due to these cancellations.

Please can the entry forms be returned by Sunday 14th March 2010. This will allow me to consolidate the entries for electronic submission by the 31st March 2010.

Nat West Trophy Gala Report

Posted January 17, 2010

This was a really enjoyable gala and great competition. The relay distances were short which saw some really fast, exiting and close races. In the end there were 2 separate groupings with us and Severnside Tritons (formally Thornbury & Stroud) vying for 1st/2nd place and Keynsham, Weston and Clevedon having a separate battles We started off really well and after 20 events we were in the lead, 1 point ahead of Severnside Tritons. We continued to swim to the best of our abilities but the strength in depth of the Tritons squad proved too much as they continued to edge ahead finishing 29 points ahead.

Severnside Tritons   - 246 Points
Southwold  - 217 Points
Keynsham A  - 186 Points
Weston Super Mare  - 175 points
Clevedon  - 145 Points
Keynsham B  - 51 Points

Well done to Lucy Jenkinson who broke the Club 50n Backstroke record for an 11 year old with a time of 35.57. I have also attached a sheet showing the Club 4 x 25m relay records that were broken, some of them smashed. I think think this best shows how much the whole club has improved in the last couple of years. Times from the meet are now on Team Stats Online.

Thanks to all the helpers on the night and Keynsham for organising the gala.
